World Cup Qualifying CONMEBOL
With Brazil automatically qualifying for the World Cup since they are hosts there are 9 countries in South America fighting for the top 5 spots (the 5th being a playoff spot). Here are the current standings.
I expect Uruguay and Argentina to qualify. Uruguay was the Copa America champion and placed 4th in the World Cup. Argentina has the best offense in South America with Lionel Messi, Lavezzi, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Javier Pastore, Gonzalo Higuain and Javier Mascherano. Paraguay isn't that surprising either seeing that they were Copa America finalists and that they had an impressive run in the World Cup. Some unexpected teams though are Colombia and Venezuela. Venezuela made it to the semifinals in the Copa America and have a decent young squad. Colombia comes to the biggest surprise. They however have had an easy schedule, beating Bolivia only 2-1 and tying Venezuela 1-1. When they face Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and even Chile (who have had a tough schedule getting crushed by both Argentina and Uruguay and beating a young and tough Peru squad) they will drop from their 3rd place status. Chile I expect to climb up into the top 4 once Vidal and Alexis Sanchez come back and I expect Peru and Venezuela to fight for that 5th place spot.
